The four construction types of Element skateboard decks accommodate different preferences, experience and cost considerations. Featherlight and Fiberlight are the original premium board constructions made with thinner veneers pressed into a concave. Featherlight is the all-around everyday board suited to any terrain. Fiberlight improves on the Featherlight frame by having even thinner veeners and fiberglass inlay.
The Helium construction is the latest lightweight Element board type and an innovation in skateboarding design. It integrates air chambers throughout two central layers of a 7-ply hard maple platform, creating a similar effect to corrugations in a cardboard box. These lightweight boards may help do higher ollies or greater flips but may be fragile for skateboarding wear-and-tear. Thin boards can be prone to lose their shape within a few days, crack or even break. On the heavier end of the spectrum is the more traditional Thriftwood construction. A Thriftwood board features a standard natural 7-ply board made of mostly natural veneers. These boards are more solid and stiffer, which makes for the more affordable choice among the four deck types.
Element also offers wheels and grip tape that are relatively durable and effective, although they are not too well-known for their trucks.
