Birdhouse emerges not as one of the fancy skateboard brands, but is hailed as one of the sturdiest in the field. It boasts of the Black 6 technology, which has been integrated into the more recent decks. Birdhouse is owned by renowned skateboarder Tony Hawk.

The graphics on most Birdhouse decks are not particularly striking, adhering to no particular theme or style and sometimes embracing themes that seem far-off and strange. Birdhouse deck graphics range from simple logo treatments and goofy characters, to comics-like illustrations and religious motifs. Graphics-wise, Birdhouse is not among the most outstanding.

What does get some praise is the durable quality of Birdhouse’s decks. The sturdy, albeit heavier, boards can endure pounding and hardcore skating wear-and-tear up to over the average skateboard life span of 6 months. Birdhouse boards also collect approving nods for providing good pop and maintaining shape. However, it is not for the all-around and street skater, and is most suitable for vert.

Black 6 is a type of construction developed for Birdhouse where the sixth ply of the standard board is made from thick dark Canadian maple, supposedly utilized for strength and stiffness. This sixth black ply is thicker than the standard ply and so adds a slight increase to the overall weight of the board. Consequently, Black 6 boards have squared top rails to offset the heavier weight and for a wider feel. The Black 6 Revolution strives to improve pop and flick through stronger, stiffer boards. Boards developed with the technology come with a limited warranty.
